AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO EXPAND THE AVAILABILITY OF COMMUNITY-BASED INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the vocational rehabilitation division of the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the purpose of expanding the availability of consumer-controlled, community-based independent living services, as defined by the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, for people with disabilities. The services shall include peer counseling, information and referral, systems advocacy, life-skills training and other related services. In providing these services, the division shall take into account the recommendations of the statewide independent living council. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
