AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT OFFICE TO CONTRACT FOR A STATE TELECOMMUNICATIONS ASSESSMENT.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Four hundred fifty thousand dollars ($450,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the information technology management office for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for contract services to perform a technical, quantitative assessment of the telecommunications infrastructure in the state.

B. Components of the assessment shall include modeling of new digital technology coverage for state radio and public broadcast television, identification of leapfrog technologies that can fill the connectivity gap, and assessments of state radio-emergency communications infrastructure; military communications infrastructure; public broadcast television coverage; connectivity of public schools, institutions of higher learning and libraries; public health facilities; and existing state agency connectivity.

C. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
