AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO CONTRACT FOR THE OPERATION OF A STATEWIDE PROGRAM CONDUCTED BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY THAT PROVIDES RECREATIONAL, EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES FOR AT-RISK YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred seventy-five thousand dollars ($275,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of public safety for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the purpose of contracting for the operation of a statewide program conducted by a law enforcement agency that provides recreational, educational and cultural activities for at-risk youth and their families. The program shall also be conducted for at-risk youth and their families who reside on Indian reservations and pueblos. An evaluation of the program's effectiveness shall be conducted by the university of New Mexico's institute for social research. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
