MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO DETERMINE THE REASONS THAT THE NUMBER OF NATIVE AMERICANS TEACHING IN NEW MEXICO PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS DECLINING AND TO DEVELOP STRATEGIES TO REVERSE THIS TREND.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico office of Indian affairs for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 to determine the reasons that the number of Native Americans teaching in New Mexico public schools is declining and to develop strategies to reverse that trend. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
