AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO ESTABLISH AN APPROPRIATE EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT FOR SPECIAL STUDENTS UNABLE TO TAKE THE STANDARD ASSESSMENT.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the purpose of developing and implementing an alternate assessment system for those students with developmental disabilities and others who are unable to take the statewide standard assessment. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
