AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO PROVIDE STATE MATCHING FUNDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF HIRING ADDITIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN THE FOURTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Three hundred ninety-nine thousand dollars ($399,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of public safety for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 in the following amounts for the purpose of providing state matching funds to hire additional law enforcement officers for the following agencies in the fourth judicial district:

(1) fifty-eight thousand dollars ($58,000) to hire three additional law enforcement officers for the San Miguel county sheriff's department;

(2) seventy thousand dollars ($70,000) to hire two additional law enforcement officers for the Mora county sheriff's department;

(3) one hundred forty thousand dollars ($140,000) to hire three additional law enforcement officers for the Las Vegas police department; and

(4) one hundred thirty-one thousand dollars ($131,000) to hire two additional law enforcement officers for the Santa Rosa police department.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
