PROPOSED AMENDMENT DIRECTED TO A COMMITTEE

February 7, 2000

Mr. Chairman:

I propose to the HOUSE EDUCATION COMMITTEE the following amendments to

HOUSE BILL 78

1. On page 3, line 8, strike "first" and insert in lieu thereof "second".

2. On page 6, line 2, before the period insert "or if the student assistance team determines that retention in eighth grade will not meet the student's level of academic achievement and proficiency of standards, the team shall design a high school graduation plan to meet the student's needs for entry into the workforce or a post-secondary educational institution.".

3. On page 6, line 2, strike "The" and insert in lieu thereof "If a student is retained in the eighth grade the".
