REQUESTING THE OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS TO DESIGNATE "THE NEW MEXICO EXPERIENCE: 1598-1998; A CONFLUENCE OF CULTURES" AS THE STATE BOOK AND REQUESTING THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM DEPARTMENTS TO PROMOTE THE BOOK.
WHEREAS, Richard E. Peck, the former president of the university of New Mexico, has written "The New Mexico Experience: 1598-1998; A Confluence of Cultures"; and
WHEREAS, the book celebrates ten thousand years of New Mexico history in words and illustrations; and
WHEREAS, the publication of the book is an appropriate commemoration of the cuartocentenario; and
WHEREAS, the book is published and printed in New Mexico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the office of cultural affairs be requested to designate the book as "the state book" and the economic development and tourism departments to publicize and promote the book to help develop the state's economy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the state cultural affairs officer and the secretaries of economic development and tourism.
