A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO IMPLEMENT THE FAMILY PLANNING PROGRAM.



WHEREAS, New Mexicans have a program that can improve health, save money and help people control their lives; and

WHEREAS, the family planning program is for women below one hundred eighty-five percent of the federal poverty level; and

WHEREAS, the plan was approved in 1997; and

WHEREAS, low-income women lose health care coverage two months after they give birth; and

WHEREAS, New Mexico is eligible for federal money that will help low-income women avoid this dilemma;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the human services department be requested to initiate the family planning program; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of human services.
