SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 501 appropriates $70.0 from the general fund to the Administrative Office of the Courts for general supervision and coordination of teen courts throughout New Mexico.

Significant Issues

The appropriation contained within this bill provides the AOC with sufficient funding to perform the functions set forth in Senate Bill 441, a companion to this bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Senate Bill 501 appropriates $70.0 from the general fund to the Administrative Office of the Courts for expenditure in fiscal year 2000. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 will revert to the general fund.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The funding will allow the AOC to hire a temporary employee or a contractor to provide the services set forth in the teen court statute. The appropriation will also provide for furniture and equipment and any additional administrative costs associated will be absorbed within the AOC's existing capacity.

CONFLICT/DUPLICATION/COMPANIONSHIP/RELATIONSHIP

Senate Bill 501 is a companion to Senate Bill 441 which creates a legal structure for teen courts and directs the Administrative Office of the Courts to provide general supervision and coordination of the teen courts.
