MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO ASSIST NEW MEXICO TEACHERS IN THE TEACHING OF GEOGRAPHY.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the commission on higher education for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of providing summer institutes and ongoing assistance to New Mexico teachers in teaching and promoting the teaching of geography. This appropriation is contingent upon matching funds and a donation of instructional geography materials from the national geographic society. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
