MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO TO CONTRACT FOR THE OPERATION OF A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES RECREATIONAL, EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES FOR AT-RISK YOUTHS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred seventy-five thousand dollars ($275,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for the institute for social research for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of contracting for the operation of a program that provides recreational, educational and cultural activities for at-risk youths and their families. The program shall be made available in communities throughout the state, including Indian reservations and pueblos. The university of New Mexico's institute for social research shall conduct an evaluation of the program's effectiveness and report its findings to the legislative finance committee. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
