                        SENATE EXECUTIVE MESSAGE NO. 89

Members of the Senate

Executive-Legislative Building

Santa Fe, New Mexico 87503

Honorable President and Members of the Senate:

I have this day VETOED and am returning SENATE BILL 575, as amended, enacted by the Forty-Fourth Legislature, First Session, 1999.

This legislation amends the Gaming Control Act to allow members of a nonprofit organization, who are physically present a the nonprofit organization’s gaming facility, to sponsor four guests to play gaming machines. Currently, only active or auxiliary members of a licensed nonprofit may use the gaming machines. I have vetoed this legislation because it expands gaming beyond the level which I indicated I would be willing to allow with respect to these organizations in the state of New Mexico.

Sincerely,

Gary E. Johnson

            Governor
