I have this day VETOED and am returning HOUSE BILL 82

enacted by the Forty-Fourth Legislature, First Session, 1999.

This legislation would direct the Children, Youth, and Families Department to divert funds from the Childcare and Development Fund to reimburse in-home child care providers. Those providers could include relatives of the child, who may have an ethical obligation to provide childcare without the need for compensation using state funds. I must reiterate my leeriness toward "pilot" programs, as they usually develop into costly statewide programs.
