MARQUARDT | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| ENCOURAGING THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND THE HUMAN SERVICES | 0012| DEPARTMENT TO DEVELOP AN AGREEMENT WITH A STATE DENTAL | 0013| ASSOCIATION TO PROVIDE DENTAL SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH | 0014| PHYSICAL, MEDICAL AND MENTAL DISABILITIES. | 0015| | 0016| WHEREAS, the New Mexico dental association is working to | 0017| develop a donated dental services program through which | 0018| volunteer dentists will provide comprehensive dental care for | 0019| needy disabled, aged and medically limited individuals; and | 0020| WHEREAS, the New Mexico dental association's 1997 survey | 0021| found clear evidence of the need for expanded dental care for | 0022| this target population; and | 0023| WHEREAS, the department of health, in cooperation with | 0024| the human services department, has plans to establish a | 0025| statewide coordinated network of oral health care providers to | - 1 - 0001| assist with the availability of comprehensive, quality dental | 0002| care for persons with developmental disabilities; and | 0003| WHEREAS, the foundation of dentistry for the handicapped, | 0004| an affiliate of the American dental association, was | 0005| established twenty-five years ago to ensure availability of | 0006| oral health care for persons with physical, medical and mental | 0007| disabilities and has assisted more than twenty states in | 0008| establishing such programs; | 0009| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0010| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of health, with | 0011| assistance from the human services department, the national | 0012| foundation of dentistry for the handicapped and the New Mexico | 0013| dental association, develop a program to provide dental | 0014| services to New Mexico citizens with physical, medical and | 0015| mental disabilities; and | 0016| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be | 0017| sent to the secretary of health for appropriate distribution. | 0018|  |
