0011|     RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION; AMENDING THE DEFINITION OF

0012|     "STUDENT" IN THE WICHE LOAN FOR SERVICE ACT.

0014|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

0015|          Section 1.  Section 21-29-2 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1997,
    |
0016|     Chapter 126, Section 2) is amended to read:
    |
0017|          "21-29-2.  DEFINITIONS.--As used in the WICHE Loan for
    |
0018|     Service Act:
    |
0019|               A.  "commission" means the commission on higher
    |
0020|     education; and
    |
0021|               B.  "student" means a New Mexico resident who is a
    |
0022|     graduate of a New Mexico high school <u>or has resided in New
</u>    |
<u></u>0023| <u>    Mexico for five consecutive years immediately preceding
</u>    |
<u></u>0024| <u>    application to the program</u> and who attends or is about to
    |
0025|     attend a graduate or professional program of education through
    |
