0016| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

0017| Section 1. RENEWABLE ENERGY POWERED VEHICLES--
|
0018| DEMONSTRATION AND STUDY--APPROPRIATION.--
|
0019| A. The commissioner of public lands shall conduct
|
0020| a study and a practical demonstration of the feasibility of
|
0021| converting state-owned automobiles and vans from gasoline
|
0022| power to renewable energy power, including hydrogen batteries
|
0023| and hydrogen fuel cells. The study shall include a cost-
|
0024| benefit analysis that considers life cycle costing and the
|
0025| costs of environmental degradation associated with gasoline
|

0001| vehicles. The commissioner shall submit his study and
|
0002| recommendations to the second session of the forty-fourth
|
0003| legislature.

0004| B. One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000)
|
0005| is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of
|
0006| public lands for expenditure in fiscal years 1999 and 2000 for
|
0007| the purposes of carrying out the provisions of Subsection A of
|
0008| this section. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance
|
0009| remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the
|
0010| general fund.
