0012| REQUESTING THE DESIGNATION OF A PORT OF ENTRY AT SUNLAND PARK,

0013| NEW MEXICO TO SERVE AS AN OFFICIAL CROSSING FOR PRIVATE
|
0014| VEHICLES AND TOURISM BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND MEXICO.

0016| WHEREAS, the city of Sunland Park is uniquely situated
|
0017| along the borders of three states (New Mexico, Texas and
|
0018| Chihuahua) and two countries (the United States and Mexico);
|
0019| and
|
0020| WHEREAS, Sunland park is located along the historic
|
0021| "Camino Real" which served as a major trade route between the
|
0022| United States and Mexico; and
|
0023| WHEREAS, Sunland Park is economically dependent on the
|
0024| economic success and vitality of El Paso, Texas and Ciudad
|
0025| Juarez, Chihuahua; and
|
0001| WHEREAS, the establishment of a non-commercial port of
|
0002| entry for commuter traffic between the three states would
|
0003| relieve traffic delays at El Paso, Texas ports of entry; and
|
0004| WHEREAS, the designation of a port of entry at Sunland
|
0005| Park will result in increased tourism and continued enhancement
|
0006| of the economic vitality of the region;
|
0007| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
|
0008| OF NEW MEXICO that a port of entry be designated within the
|
0009| Sunland Park city limits by the appropriate federal officials;
|
0010| and
|
0011| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the federal officials
|
0012| responsible for the designation be encouraged to solicit any
|
0013| additional information necessary to expedite all further action
|
0014| on this matter; and
|
0015| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0016| distributed to the President of the United States, all members
|
0017| of the New Mexico congressional delegation, the secretary of
|
0018| the treasury and the secretary of state.
