0011| REQUESTING THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO

0012| TO ASSESS THE FEASIBILITY OF PROVIDING FOR AN EVENING LAW

0013| PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO SCHOOL OF LAW.

0015| WHEREAS, for many years, the university of New Mexico has
|
0016| operated an outstanding law school at the main campus in
|
0017| Albuquerque; and
|
0018| WHEREAS, the university of New Mexico school of law is the
|
0019| only accredited law school operating in the state; and
|
0020| WHEREAS, many New Mexicans are interested in the legal
|
0021| profession and the study of jurisprudence; and
|
0022| WHEREAS, unlike many other courses of study, law classes
|
0023| at the university of New Mexico school of law are not made
|
0024| available in the evening for the benefit of persons who must
|
0025| work during the day; and
|
0001| WHEREAS, the board of regents of the university of New
|
0002| Mexico should examine the feasibility of establishing an
|
0003| evening course of law studies to enable more New Mexicans to
|
0004| participate in the study of jurisprudence;
|
0005| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
|
0006| OF NEW MEXICO that the board of regents of the university of
|
0007| New Mexico be requested to study the feasibility of offering an
|
0008| evening course of law studies at the university of New Mexico
|
0009| school of law in Albuquerque; and
|
0010| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the board of regents of the
|
0011| university of New Mexico report its findings and
|
0012| recommendations to the appropriate interim legislative
|
0013| committee prior to the commencement of the second session of
|
0014| the forty-third legislative session; and
|
0015| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0016| transmitted to the president of the board of regents of the
|
0017| university of New Mexico and the director of the commission on
|
0018| higher education.
