0011| DECLARING APRIL 1998 AS ARTS, SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY MONTH IN
|
0012| THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

0014| WHEREAS, with most classrooms in our state housing
|
0015| computers and money being directed to the purchase of more
|
0016| technology for our schools, and the nation pushing to get its
|
0017| public school classrooms hooked up to the internet within the
|
0018| next three years, we are becoming more versed in technology
|
0019| every day; and
|
0020| WHEREAS, with increasing technology and the prevalent
|
0021| presence of computers in the lives of our children, we must
|
0022| remember that technology alone will not fix everything and that
|
0023| computers are simply other tools for learning; and
|
0024| WHEREAS, creating quality, exciting learning environments
|
0025| is the key we must use to unlock the gate to an enlivening
|
0001| education for our children, one that gives equal credence to
|
0002| the arts as well as the sciences; and
|
0003| WHEREAS, in classrooms throughout the state, students are
|
0004| engaged in honing their artistic skills with visiting artists-
|
0005| in-residence and their own classroom teachers; and
|
0006| WHEREAS, in another classroom you might find students
|
0007| building light bulb setups while other students graph the
|
0008| differences in light reflected from various colors, thus
|
0009| studying light waves with the assistance of their computers;
|
0010| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0011| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the hard, creative work of our
|
0012| students be recognized and showcased in April 1998 at all
|
0013| public schools in New Mexico so that parents and community
|
0014| members can participate and see what students are learning; and
|
0015| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that April 1998 be declared arts,
|
0016| sciences and technology month in the public schools; and
|
0017| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0018| transmitted to the superintendent of public instruction and the
|
0019| superintendents of all New Mexico school districts.
