LOPEZ | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION OF THE TAXATION AND | 0012| REVENUE DEPARTMENT TO ESTABLISH A FIELD OFFICE IN THE SOUTHWEST | 0013| QUADRANT OF THE ALBUQUERQUE METROPOLITAN AREA. | 0014| | 0015| WHEREAS, the south valley is a conglomeration of historic | 0016| native New Mexican communities that include Atrisco, Armijo, | 0017| Five Points, Pajarito and Los Padillas in which reside about | 0018| sixty-eight thousand people; and | 0019| WHEREAS, the oldest community in the area, Atrisco, was | 0020| established in 1692 and is older than old town Albuquerque; and | 0021| WHEREAS, with such a continuous history and large | 0022| population, it is incumbent upon the state to provide adequate | 0023| facilities for the residents to comply with the state's laws | 0024| such as vehicle registration; and | 0025| WHEREAS, the nearest motor vehicle division office is | 0001| fifteen miles from the average resident of the area; and | 0002| WHEREAS, a local service office in the area would reduce | 0003| traffic congestion, air pollution and the risk of accidents by | 0004| the elderly living in the communities; | 0005| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0006| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the motor vehicle division of the | 0007| taxation and revenue department be requested to establish a | 0008| field office in the southwest quadrant of the Albuquerque | 0009| metropolitan area; and | 0010| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0011| transmitted to the secretary of taxation and revenue and to the | 0012| director of the motor vehicle division. | 0013| - 2 - |
