0011|     MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY

0012|     OF NEW MEXICO FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS.

0014|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0015|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--
    |
0016|               A.  Five hundred ninety-five thousand dollars
    |
0017|     ($595,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board
    |
0018|     of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in
    |
0019|     fiscal year 1998 for the following projects in the following
    |
0020|     amounts:
    |
0021|                    (1)  three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000)
    |
0022|     for recruitment of academically exceptional graduate students
    |
0023|     to improve the quality and quantity of research work done at
    |
0024|     the university of New Mexico; and
    |
0025|                    (2)  two hundred ninety-five thousand dollars
    |
0001|     ($295,000) for the art of the Americas institute to conduct
    |
0002|     teaching, research and public service projects and promote
    |
0003|     cultural diversity in the arts.
    |
0004|               B.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining
    |
0005|     at the end of fiscal year 1998 shall revert to the general
    |
0006|     fund.
