LEGISLATIVE FINDINGS--HISPANIC PRESENCE IN NEW | 0017| MEXICO.--The legislature of the state of New Mexico notes with | 0018| pride that April 30, 1998 will mark the four-hundredth | 0019| anniversary of the founding of continuous European presence | 0020| within the United States and the convergence of the Hispanic | 0021| and Native American cultures and traditions. This convergence | 0022| will be celebrated with the cooperation of a wide variety of | 0023| business, civic, cultural and governmental agencies in New | 0024| Mexico as well as their counterparts in Mexico and Spain, | 0025| bringing honor and attention to our state and region. New | 0001| Mexico's people have made and continue to make major | 0002| contributions to this productive history, and the legislature | 0003| elects to contribute to the cuartocentennial project through | 0004| exhibitions, publications and media programs, as well as | 0005| cultural and artistic endeavors of every type. | 0006| Section 2. APPROPRIATION--CUARTOCENTENNIAL PROJECT-- | 0007| PURPOSE.--Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is | 0008| appropriated from the general fund to the office of cultural | 0009| affairs for expenditure in fiscal years 1997 and 1998 to | 0010| provide support of the cuartocentennial project, to be observed | 0011| in 1998, to help celebrate four hundred years of diversity and | 0012| richness produced and nurtured through our Hispanic and Native | 0013| American cultures. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance | 0014| remaining at the end of fiscal year 1998 shall revert to the | 0015| general fund. | 0016| Section 3.
