  Mr. Speaker:
  
       Your EDUCATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred
  
                        HOUSE BILL 317
  
  has had it under consideration and reports same with
  recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:
  
       1.  On page 1, line 12, after "OPERATING", strike "MULTITRACK
  YEAR-ROUND SCHOOLS" and insert in lieu thereof "SCHOOLS ON VARIABLE
  SCHOOL CALENDARS".
  
       2.  On page 4, strike lines 6 through 16 and insert:
  
            "O.  "variable school calendar school" means a school
  that operates on a calendar for school or school district operations
  extending over a ten-, eleven- or twelve-month period or portions
  thereof in excess of nine months that permits attendance on a
  staggered schedule to achieve optimum and maximum use of school
  facilities and personnel."".
  
       3.  On page 5, line 10, strike "multitrack year-round" and
  insert in lieu thereof "variable school calendar".
  
       4.  On page 6, line 2, strike "MULTITRACK YEAR-ROUND" and
  insert in lieu thereof "VARIABLE SCHOOL CALENDAR".
  
       5.  On page 6, lines 3 and 4, strike "multitrack year-round"
  and insert in lieu thereof "variable school calendar".
       6.  On page 6, line 8, strike "multitrack" and insert in lieu
  thereof "variable school calendar".
  
       7.  On page 6, line 9, strike "multitrack" and insert in lieu
  thereof "variable school calendar".
  
       8.  On page 6, line 11, strike "multitrack year-round" and
  insert in lieu thereof "variable school calendar".
  
       9.  On page 6, line 16, strike "multitrack year-round" and
  insert in lieu thereof "variable school calendar".,
  
       
  
  and thence referred to the APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE
  COMMITTEE.
