0012| REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO SPONSOR

0013| LEGISLATION TO TRANSFER CERTAIN FEDERALLY OWNED PROPERTIES AT

0014| CONCHAS DAM TO PRIVATE TAXPAYERS.

0016| WHEREAS, the United States army corps of engineers built
|
0017| and maintains Conchas dam; and
|
0018| WHEREAS, the United States army corps of engineers has
|
0019| performed its traditional dam building and maintenance duties in
|
0020| an exemplary manner; and
|
0021| WHEREAS, the United States army corps of engineers has
|
0022| acquired control of other property in the area that is unrelated
|
0023| to the maintenance of Conchas dam; and
|
0024| WHEREAS, the United States army corps of engineers now owns
|
0025| and manages a motel, golf course and other properties that are
|
0001| not traditionally related to the experience or expertise of the
|
0002| United States army corps of engineers; and
|
0003| WHEREAS, the management of the additional properties by the
|
0004| United States army corps of engineers has stifled private
|
0005| initiative and private enterprise in the Conchas dam area; and
|
0006| WHEREAS, an orderly transition of these additional
|
0007| properties from the control of the federal government to the
|
0008| private sector will promote the general welfare of the area,
|
0009| including Conchas and Variadero and the immediately surrounding
|
0010| vicinity, as well as the entire state of New Mexico, since so
|
0011| many New Mexicans visit the area;
|
0012| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0013| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico congressional delegation
|
0014| be requested to sponsor legislation immediately to privatize the
|
0015| federally owned properties in the Conchas dam area that are not
|
0016| directly related to the operation and maintenance of Conchas
|
0017| dam; and
|
0018| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be sent
|
0019| to each member of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
