STEFANICS | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| | 0011| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0012| REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND THE NATURAL | 0013| RESOURCES TRUSTEE TO CONTINUE EFFORTS TO ENSURE THAT TERRERO | 0014| MINE IS CLEANED UP AND REMEDIATED. | 0015| | 0016| WHEREAS, the department of environment has worked | 0017| tirelessly and diligently to see that Terrero mine is cleaned up | 0018| and remediated; and | 0019| WHEREAS, water quality in the area around Terrero and the | 0020| communities downstream as far as Pecos has been seriously | 0021| degraded; and | 0022| WHEREAS, public health is threatened until all | 0023| contamination has been remediated; | 0024| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0025| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of environment be | 0001| commended for its diligence in seeing that the environmental | 0002| impacts from Terrero mine are cleaned up and contamination is | 0003| remediated; and | 0004| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department of environment | 0005| continue its efforts in behalf of residents in the area and that | 0006| among these efforts the department pursue the following: | 0007| A. the testing of village wells; | 0008| B. geologic tests by Amax; | 0009| C. the drilling of a second well; | 0010| D. extension of water lines to the landfill and mine site, | 0011| including materials and labor; | 0012| E. connection of residents to the lines; and | 0013| F. reimbursement of private well owners whose wells are | 0014| not valid; and | 0015| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0016| transmitted to the secretary of environment and to the natural | 0017| resources trustee. | 0018|  |
