0012|     RELATING TO COURTS; PROVIDING FOR ONE ADDITIONAL CHILDREN'S

0013|     COURT JUDGE IN THE SECOND JUDICIAL DISTRICT; AMENDING A SECTION

0014|     OF THE NMSA 1978; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.

0016|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0017|       Section 1.  Section 34-6-5 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1968,
    |
0018|     Chapter 69, Section 8, as amended) is amended to read:
    |
0019|       "34-6-5.  JUDGES--SECOND JUDICIAL DISTRICT.--There shall be
    |
0020|     <s>[twenty-one]</s> <u>twenty-two</u> district judges in the second
    |
0021|     judicial district."
    |
0022|       Section 2.  TEMPORARY PROVISION--APPOINTMENT.--The
    |
0023|     additional judgeship provided for in Section 1 of this act shall
    |
0024|     be filled by the governor pursuant to Article 6, Section 36 of
    |
0025|     the constitution of New Mexico.
    |
0001|       Section 3.  APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred twenty-six thousand
    |
0002|     dollars ($226,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the
    |
0003|     second judicial district for expenditure in fiscal year 1997 for
    |
0004|     the purpose of paying salaries and benefits and providing
    |
0005|     equipment, furniture and supplies for one additional children's
    |
0006|     court judge and support staff.  Any unexpended or unencumbered
    |
0007|     balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1997 shall revert to
    |
0008|     the general fund.
    |
0009|       Section 4.  EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the
    |
0010|     provisions of this act is July 1, 1996.
