0012|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PROMOTION, MARKETING ASSISTANCE AND

0013|     DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION TO LOCAL FARMERS' MARKETS

0014|     STATEWIDE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

0016|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0017|       Section 1.  APPROPRIATION--REPORTS.--
    |
0018|            A.  Seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) is
    |
0019|     appropriated from the general fund to the economic development
    |
0020|     department for expenditure in fiscal years 1996 and 1997 for the

    |
0021|     purpose of promoting local farmers' markets throughout the state
    |
0022|     and to disseminate educational, nutritional and food-safety
    |
0023|     information to local farmers' markets.  Any unexpended or
    |
0024|     unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1997
    |
0025|     shall revert to the general fund.
    |
0001|            B.  In providing marketing, promotional and farm-direct marketing assistance to local farmers' markets, the
    |
0002|     economic development department shall require an annual report
    |
0003|     from each farmers' market organization.  The report shall
    |
0004|     demonstrate the extent to which the market provides information
    |
0005|     to nutritionally at-risk families and how the <u>market's</u> efforts
    |
0006|     have increased consumer awareness of farmers' markets and farm-direct marketing possibilities.
    |
0007|       Section 2.  EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public
    |
0008|     peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
