A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE MILKEN FAMILY FOUNDATION AND THE MILKEN EDUCATOR AWARDS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO NEW MEXICO PUBLIC EDUCATION.

 

     WHEREAS, the Milken educator awards were established by the Milken family foundation in 1987 to celebrate, elevate and activate the K-12 teaching profession and to inspire young people to pursue teaching as a career; and

     WHEREAS, the Milken educator awards program has honored New Mexico K-12 educators since 1992 and has awarded more than one million seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($1,750,000) to New Mexico educators; and

     WHEREAS, the Milken educator awards provide public recognition and financial rewards to early and mid-career elementary and secondary school teachers, principals and education specialists across the United States for excellence and achievement in education and for the promise of what they will accomplish in their careers; and

     WHEREAS, the Milken educator award is a national recognition that provides the recipient with twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) in cash and ongoing professional development through a life membership in the Milken educator network; and

     WHEREAS, the Milken educator awards program is a national initiative that supports the professional development of educators through a national mentoring network that fosters support for new teachers and collaboratives to tackle pressing educational needs; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the Milken educator awards program is to promote and improve education around the world and to recognize excellence in teaching;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that recognition be extended to the Milken family foundation and the Milken educator awards for their valuable contributions to public education in New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the chair, president and executive vice-president of the Milken family foundation and to the secretary of public education.
