FOR THE LEGISLATIVE HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE
AN ACT
MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS ACROSS THE STATE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--
A. The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2026:
(1) three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to partner with an organization that provides trauma-informed and culture-centered suicide prevention training to school staff, students and community members; and
(2) one million seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($1,750,000) to support the operation of fourteen mental health rooms in schools across the state.
B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2026 shall revert to the general fund.
