A MEMORIAL

DECLARING JANUARY 22, 2024 "CERTIFIED ANESTHESIOLOGIST ASSISTANTS DAY" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, certified anesthesiologist assistants have practiced in the United States since 1969; and

     WHEREAS, certified anesthesiologist assistants have practiced in New Mexico since 2001; and

     WHEREAS, certified anesthesiologist assistants play a critical role in health care delivery; and

     WHEREAS, certified anesthesiologist assistants have provided care to thousands of patients in New Mexico and have an impeccable malpractice record in the state; and

     WHEREAS, the legislature overwhelmingly passed Senate Bill 35 during the 2023 legislative session, which ensures that certified anesthesiologist assistants will continue to practice in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the certified anesthesiologist assistant workforce has grown by ten percent since the passage of Senate Bill 35; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico will begin to see locally trained student anesthesiologist assistants beginning in August 2024, assuring continued increases in the profession; and

     WHEREAS, certified anesthesiologist assistants appreciate the legislative support that they have received, including the passage of Senate Bill 35;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 22, 2024 be declared "Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants Day" in the senate to acknowledge and honor each certified anesthesiologist assistant in New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the chair and board members of the New Mexico academy of anesthesiologist assistants.
