56th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first session, 2023

DECLARING MARCH 2, 2023 "NEW MEXICO ATHLETIC TRAINERS' DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

WHEREAS, the New Mexico athletic trainers' association was founded in 1983 as an organization committed to the education of its members and the enhancement of the profession of athletic training, creating better health care for the population it serves; and

WHEREAS, the New Mexico athletic trainers' association is composed of certified athletic trainers from professional, collegiate and high school teams, industries, physician offices, rehabilitation clinics and every branch of the United States military working together to promote and practice the profession of athletic training in New Mexico; and

WHEREAS, athletic trainers have a long history of providing quality health care for athletes and persons engaged in regular physical activity; and

WHEREAS, athletic trainers are highly skilled health care professionals who specialize in immediate, acute and emergency care; examination, assessment and diagnosis; injury prevention; risk management; therapeutic intervention; and rehabilitation of injury and illness; and

WHEREAS, the national athletic trainers' association represents and supports more than forty-five thousand members of the athletic training profession, including two hundred eight athletic trainers in New Mexico; and

WHEREAS, the national athletic trainers' association and the New Mexico athletic trainers' association celebrate national athletic training month every March; and

WHEREAS, leading organizations concerned with athletic training and health care have united in a common commitment to raise public awareness of the importance of the profession of athletic training and the role of athletic trainers in the provision of quality health care services, including those participating in the annual legislative hoops for hope basketball game; and

WHEREAS, the New Mexico house of representatives supports improved health care for athletes and everyone who engages in physical activity;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 2, 2023 be recognized as "New Mexico Athletic Trainers' Day" in the house of representatives; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the house of representatives recognize New Mexico athletic trainers for their honorable work in keeping the community healthy; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico athletic trainers' association and the national athletic trainers' association.
