A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING MAY 2023 AS "MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH"

 

     WHEREAS, motorcycles are used as a regular means of transportation for commuting, touring and recreating in and around New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Bernalillo, Santa Fe and Sandoval counties' scenic roadways make very popular destinations for motorcycle riders from around the country; and

     WHEREAS, the safe operation of a motorcycle requires the use of acquired skills developed through a combination of training and experience, the use of good judgment and thorough knowledge of traffic laws and licensing requirements; and

      WHEREAS, it is imperative that the residents of New Mexico be aware of, show consideration to and share the road with motorcycles on streets and highways and recognize the importance of motorcycle safety; and

     WHEREAS, the national highway traffic safety administration has declared the month of May as "Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month" to raise awareness of the growing number of motorcyclists on roadways, help prevent accidents and, most importantly, save lives; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico residents are urged to be observant, courteous and knowledgeable about motorcycle usage in their communities;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that May 2023 be recognized as "Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month"; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all New Mexico residents be encouraged to share the road safely; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the national highway traffic safety administration.
