AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE SECOND JUDICIAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY TO ENHANCE FUNDING FOR PREVENTIVE DETENTION EFFORTS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the second judicial district attorney for expenditure in fiscal year 2024 to enhance funding for preventive detention efforts, including the hiring of new staff focused primarily on pretrial detention hearings. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2024 shall revert to the general fund.
