AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO FUND A PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT THE WESTSIDE ANIMAL SHELTER IN ALBUQUERQUE AND TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF CREATING A STATEWIDE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred fifty thousand dollars ($350,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal years 2024 and 2025 to fund a paid internship program for high school students at the westside animal shelter in Albuquerque and to study the feasibility of creating a statewide internship program for high school students. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2025 shall revert to the general fund.
