A MEMORIAL
HONORING REPRESENTATIVE BRITTNEY BARRERAS AND RECOGNIZING HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO.
WHEREAS, Representative Brittney Barreras, a Democrat, was elected in 2020 to represent district 12, which covers Bernalillo county; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras served the first year of her term in 2021; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras was the vice chair of the health and human services committee and a member of the energy, environment and natural resources committee and served on the interim Indian affairs committee; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras was born and raised in district 12, where she and her four sisters lived for twenty-four years in what was known as "the house with all the girls"; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras attended Valley high school in Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras represented the challenges of young families across New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras is deeply committed to her community and goes above and beyond, helping her constituents through backpack drives and buying basic necessities for families in need in her district; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras focused her priorities in the legislature on human rights and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex and asexual agender rights; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras is widely considered the member with the best sense of humor in the house of representatives; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras reached across the aisle to enhance the friendliness of the legislative body; and
WHEREAS, Representative Barreras is raising a beautiful, intelligent child, Isla;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Representative Brittney Barreras be recognized for her outstanding service to New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Representative Brittney Barreras.
