AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH FOR THE PURCHASE AND DISTRIBUTION OF KN95 MASKS OR EQUIVALENTLY EFFECTIVE MASKS AND FOR A ROBUST STATEWIDE PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE AND PROPER USAGE OF MASKS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Ten million dollars ($10,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of health for expenditure in fiscal years 2022 through 2024 for the purchase and distribution of KN95 masks or equivalently effective masks that reduce transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 and for a robust statewide public education campaign about the importance and proper usage of masks. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2024 shall revert to the general fund.

     SECTION 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
