A MEMORIAL

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE SENATE TO DAVID G. PACHECO, LONG-TIME SERGEANT-AT-ARMS.

     WHEREAS, David G. Pacheco began working for the senate in 1989 as a committee attendant and worked his way up to assistant to the then senate chief clerk, Margaret Larragoite; and

     WHEREAS, David was elected as the senate sergeant-at-arms in 2007, supported by Democrats and Republicans alike; and

     WHEREAS, David is unfailingly polite and diplomatic as he keeps order on the first floor, decorum of the senate and service to the senate uppermost in his and his staff's minds; and

     WHEREAS, David has been described as the perfect sergeant-at-arms because, with his easy manner and calm authority, he disarms volatile situations rather than making them worse with strong-arm tactics; and

     WHEREAS, David's many kindnesses to senators and their families and to legislative staff through thirty-three legislative sessions have made him many friends around the state; and

     WHEREAS, David enjoys the respect and affection of everyone he works with, and his rapport with senators on both sides of the aisle is truly remarkable, even with those who do not share his deep, abiding love of the Dallas Cowboys;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it express its appreciation and gratitude to David G. Pacheco for over thirty years of service to the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the senate note especially David's support of the body during the trying days of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the senate also express its thanks to David's wife, Sophie, his daughter, Amanda, and his grandchildren for their forbearance of David's passion for service to the senate, the legislature and the state; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the senate give its best wishes to David as he devotes full time to his third career (at least) as the state capitol's assistant building superintendent; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be presented to David G. Pacheco in open session.
