A MEMORIAL

HONORING STEPHEN HENRY PERRY AND RECOGNIZING HIS OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, Stephen Henry Perry, a resident of Austin, Texas, passed away on May 11, 2020; and

     WHEREAS, the son of Gayle and O.V. Perry, Steve was born in Lubbock, Texas, on August 28, 1957 and grew up with a sister, Camille; and

     WHEREAS, Steve attended Texas tech university and completed his bachelor's degree in government at the university of Texas at Austin; and

     WHEREAS, after working at the Texas state capitol for then-state representative George Pierce, Steve was hired by Texaco as a state government affairs representative; and

     WHEREAS, Steve went on to lead government affairs for Altura energy and then represented Texaco again as head of his own firm, Perry and associates; and

     WHEREAS, following Texaco's merger with the Chevron corporation in 2004, Steve became Chevron's state government affairs manager for New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas; and

     WHEREAS, Steve was a familiar face in the New Mexico state capitol and shared a deep love for New Mexico and its people and cultures; and

     WHEREAS, Steve took on leadership roles in various charitable endeavors, as well as trade associations, including the New Mexico oil and gas association and the Permian Basin petroleum association; and

     WHEREAS, Steve's affable manner and thoughtful, caring nature brought him numerous warm friendships in professional circles and with people he met from all walks of life; an attentive listener, he always stood ready to provide encouragement, consolation or sage advice; and

     WHEREAS, following the death of his sister, Steve stepped in to help his niece, Katherine, and continued to play a significant role in her life; and

     WHEREAS, Steve was an enthusiastic music fan and patron, and he loved to include friends in his fun at music festivals, the opera and other events; and

     WHEREAS, Steve was also an avid golfer for more than forty-five years; and

     WHEREAS, Steve possessed a generosity of spirit that expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to share in his love and friendship; and

     WHEREAS, Steve is remembered fondly by state legislators, legislative staff, lobbyists and the many other friends he had in New Mexico; and 

     WHEREAS, memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort Steve's family and many friends;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Stephen Henry Perry be honored and recognized for his outstanding community service to the residents of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the family of Stephen Henry Perry.
