AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC SAFETY; PROVIDING THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY WITH THE AUTHORITY TO ENTER INTO MEMORANDA OF UNDERSTANDING WITH OTHER JURISDICTIONS IN NEW MEXICO TO PROVIDE LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Department of Public Safety Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] SECRETARY--ADDITIONAL POWERS--MEMORANDA OF UNDERSTANDING--LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL.--The secretary may enter into memoranda of understanding with county, local and municipal law enforcement agencies to provide law enforcement personnel. A memorandum of understanding pursuant to this section shall set forth all of the requirements necessary for a law enforcement officer and a law enforcement agency to provide law enforcement services, including all training requirements for law enforcement personnel and choice of law."

     SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2019.
