A JOINT MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING DIRECTOR AND WRITER SHAANDIIN TOME ON HER FILM MUD (HASHTŁ'ISHNII) BEING CHOSEN AS AN OFFICIAL 2018 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL SELECTION AND RECOGNIZING THE PRODUCER AND ACTORS FOR THEIR SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SUCCESS OF THE FILM.

 

     WHEREAS, Shaandiin Tome is the writer and director of Mud (Hashtł'ishnii), an official 2018 Sundance film festival selection; and

     WHEREAS, Shaandiin is from Red Valley, Arizona/Mitten Rock, New Mexico, in the Navajo Nation chapter that spans two state boundaries and is officially in the northern Navajo area in New Mexico house district 4 and senate district 3; and

     WHEREAS, Shaandiin is the granddaughter of the late Marshall Tome from Red Valley, Arizona/Mitten Rock, New Mexico, principal founder of the Navajo Times newspaper, co-founder of KTNN radio, founder of Navajo Nation television five and co-founder of the Navajo film and media commission; and

     WHEREAS, Shaandiin is a cum laude graduate of the interdisciplinary film and digital media school at the university of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Shaandiin participated as a fellow in the Sundance film festival in 2016, as staff and a Native American fellow in 2017 and now as a director in 2018; and

     WHEREAS, Mud (Hashtł'ishnii) is the only written, directed and produced film shot in New Mexico to be chosen as an official 2018 Sundance film selection, and the selection of Shaandiin's film recognizes her continuing work in art and film expression in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Aroonsri Khamsamran, the official producer of Mud (Hashtł'ishnii), is from Taos, New Mexico, and is a graduate of the interdisciplinary film and digital media school at the university of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, two members of the cast of Mud (Hashtł'ishnii), Trini King and Forrest Goodluck, are from house district 4 and senate district 3, and Forrest is also a screen actor's guild member; and

     WHEREAS, Shaandiin proudly carries her grandfather Marshall Tome's name and honor in filmmaking;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that writer and director Shaandiin Tome be recognized and congratulated for the selection of her film Mud (Hashtł'ishnii) as an official 2018 Sundance film festival selection; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that official producer Aroonsri Khamsamran and actors Trini King and Forrest Goodluck be recognized for their significant contributions to the success of Mud (Hashtł'ishnii); and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Shaandiin Tome, Aroonsri Khamsamran, Trini King and Forrest Goodluck.
