AN ACT
RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT; AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PILOT PROGRAM FOR DATA RELATING TO CRIMINAL ACTIVITY IN BERNALILLO COUNTY; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. [NEW MATERIAL] PILOT PROGRAM FOR DATA RELATING TO CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.--
A. The district attorney of the second judicial district may establish a two-year criminal data pilot project to gather and analyze data relating to criminal activity in Bernalillo county. The criminal data pilot project shall examine geographic patterns of criminal incidents, the social and economic characteristics of persons involved in criminal activity and other relevant data in an effort to increase the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts.
B. The district attorney of the second judicial district shall seek federal and private funding to support the criminal data pilot project.
C. The district attorney of the second judicial district shall report to the legislature by December 1 in 2018, 2019 and 2020 on the progress of the criminal data pilot project.
SECTION 2. APPROPRIATION.--Fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the office of the second judicial district attorney for expenditure in fiscal years 2019 and 2020 to establish a two-year criminal data pilot project in Bernalillo county. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2020 shall revert to the general fund.
