A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING THE TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS BY NEW MEXICO'S COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCILS AND PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 1, 2017 AS "PUBLIC HEALTH AND COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCILS DAY" IN THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, New Mexico's community health councils were established under the auspices of the 1991 County Maternal and Child Health Plan Act; and
WHEREAS, the County Maternal and Child Health Plan Act was amended in 2007 to include community health councils located in tribal communities; and
WHEREAS, for twenty-five years, New Mexico's community health councils have served the state with dedication and distinction to improve the health of all New Mexicans; and WHEREAS, community health councils continue to serve as the hub of public health systems in counties and tribal communities; and
WHEREAS, community health councils have produced community health assessments that identify and document local health needs, resources and conditions; and
WHEREAS, community health councils have produced community health plans that identify local health priorities, goals and strategies; and
WHEREAS, community health councils have developed and implemented programs and services to address critical health needs and to increase access to essential services; and
WHEREAS, community health councils have worked with communities to attract federal, state and private funding to communities to support health programs and services; and
WHEREAS, community health councils have worked with county and tribal governments to develop policies to improve community health; and
WHEREAS, community health councils continue to provide accurate, up-to-date information on local health needs to state agencies and nonprofit service providers; and
WHEREAS, community health councils have provided planning and coordination of local health services that result in reducing duplication and filling gaps in services;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that New Mexico's community health councils be recognized and congratulated for their accomplishments and their twenty-five years of service in improving the health of the people of New Mexico and that February 1, 2017 be proclaimed "Public Health and Community Health Councils Day" in the senate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor and the secretary of health.
