A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THAT THE NEW MEXICO MEDICAL BOARD AND THE BOARD OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE CONVENE A TASK FORCE TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS ON IMPROVING THE NEW MEXICO MEDICAL BOARD'S AND THE BOARD OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE'S REPORTING TO THE PUBLIC.

 

     WHEREAS, according to a March 2016 Consumer Reports study, the New Mexico medical board and the board of osteopathic medicine are rated among the worst in the nation for failing to keep patients informed about provider history; and

     WHEREAS, information about a provider is crucial to the patient's selection of a provider;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico medical board and the board of osteopathic medicine be requested to convene a task force that includes a medical provider licensed by the New Mexico medical board and the board of osteopathic medicine, respectively; two legislators; and two consumer advocates appointed by the legislative members of the task force; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force be requested to report its findings and recommendations for improving the reporting on the New Mexico medical board and board of osteopathic medicine websites to the legislative health and human services committee and the legislative finance committee by October 1, 2017; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, the director of the legislative finance committee, the chair and vice chair of the legislative health and human services committee, the chairs of the New Mexico medical board and the board of osteopathic medicine.
