A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO COMPILATION COMMISSION TO LEAD A REVIEW OF THE STATE'S LAWS AND RECOMMEND TECHNICAL CHANGES.

 

     WHEREAS, the laws of New Mexico should be easily understood by the people who must abide by them; and

     WHEREAS, many of New Mexico's laws contain antiquated, confusing or invalid language or provisions; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico compilation commission is a state agency consisting of the chief justice of the supreme court, the clerk of the supreme court, the attorney general, the state records administrator, the dean of the university of New Mexico school of law, the director of the legislative council service and the president of the New Mexico state bar association; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico compilation commission is uniquely qualified to lead a review of New Mexico's laws and recommend technical changes;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico compilation commission be requested to lead a review of the state's laws and recommend changes over time to the legislature to remove antiquated or invalid provisions and clarify confusing language; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the executive director of the New Mexico compilation commission.
