A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 1, 2017 "BUENO FOODS DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods has grown from a small family-owned grocery store in the south valley of Albuquerque founded in 1951 to the southwest's premier producer of New Mexican foods; and

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods was created by World War II veterans Joe, Ray and August Baca, members of a historic New Mexico family; and

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods is committed to New Mexico through job creation and economic development, providing about two hundred seventy-five full-time jobs with a total of over four hundred jobs during peak seasons; and

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods reinvests in the New Mexico economy through purchases from area farmers and of locally grown products; and

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods is the first company to become New Mexico chile-certified, and Bueno foods' farmers are the first farmers to be New Mexico chile-certified; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico certification seal is an independent guarantee that Bueno foods' green chile products are grown in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods' operations have a ripple effect throughout the region's economy, supporting secondary businesses and employment and returning revenue to New Mexico for local reinvestment from sales outside the state; and

     WHEREAS, today, the Bueno foods brand is the most recognized green chile brand in New Mexico and throughout North America; and

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods is dedicated to preserving New Mexico culture through the manufacture of a full line of over one hundred fifty authentic products for restaurants and retail clients; and

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods is steadfast in creating an equal opportunity workplace and offers an aggressive internal promotion program, based on merit, to all employees, including women and minorities; and

     WHEREAS, Bueno foods' purpose is to have a positive influence on people's lives through job creation, community involvement and the production of high-quality products;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 1, 2017 be declared "Bueno Foods Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Bueno foods be recognized for its exemplary business and the celebration of its sixty-fifth anniversary; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to Jacqueline "Jackie" Baca, Gene Baca, Catherine Baca, M.D., and Ana Baca, M.A., the Bueno foods management team.
