A JOINT MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL SERVICE TO STUDY THE USE OF A REVISOR OF STATUTES.
WHEREAS, New Mexico became a state of the United States of America in 1912; and
WHEREAS, the New Mexico legislature has crafted and passed many laws since 1912, many of which are still in the New Mexico statutes annotated; and
WHEREAS, many of New Mexico's laws contain antiquated, confusing or invalid language or provisions; and
WHEREAS, many states have created a revisor of statutes within their bill drafting services; and
WHEREAS, the job of a revisor of statutes is to report to the drafting service any defects found in state statute or the state constitution and to draft proposed legislation for recommendation to the legislature;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislative council service be requested to investigate the cost and process of employing a revisor of statutes; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the director of the legislative council service report the findings of the investigation to the New Mexico legislative council; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the legislative council service.
