AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS; REQUIRING THAT THE STATE CEASE ITS PARTICIPATION IN THE PARTNERSHIP FOR ASSESSMENT OF READINESS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREERS; PROHIBITING THE USE OF ASSESSMENTS FROM THAT PARTNERSHIP.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Assessment and Accountability Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] ASSESSMENTS--WITHDRAWAL FROM THE PARTNERSHIP FOR ASSESSMENT OF READINESS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREERS--ASSESSMENTS NOT ALLOWED.--

          A. The governor and the secretary shall notify the partnership for assessment of readiness for college and careers that the state is withdrawing from the partnership no later than July 1, 2017.

          B. The department shall design or contract for a new assessment beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. The department shall not use or require school districts or charter schools to use an assessment produced, recommended or sold by or through the partnership for assessment of readiness for college and careers."
