AN ACT

RELATING TO COURTS; REQUIRING TRAINING RELATED TO SAFETY OF CHILDREN AND REUNIFICATION OF FAMILIES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Children's Code is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] SAFETY IN FAMILY REUNIFICATION--REQUIRED TRAINING.--The department, in collaboration with the administrative office of the courts, shall provide training to a person who serves as a judge or hearing officer in matters related to custody of a child. The training shall focus on maintaining a child's safety when reunification with a parent or guardian is considered."
