AN ACT

RELATING TO GAME ANIMALS; ENACTING A NEW SECTION OF CHAPTER 17 NMSA 1978 TO REQUIRE THE STATE GAME COMMISSION TO ADOPT RULES FOR THE ISSUANCE OF HUNTING LICENSES, PERMITS AND TAGS TO ACCOMPLISH A REDUCTION IN THE POPULATION OF ELK PROPORTIONAL TO REDUCTIONS IN LIVESTOCK GRAZING ALLOTMENTS BY FEDERAL LAND AGENCIES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of Chapter 17 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] STATE GAME COMMISSION--ADDITIONAL DUTIES--ELK HUNTING--PROPORTIONAL TO GRAZING ALLOTMENT REDUCTIONS.--The state game commission shall adopt rules to issue hunting licenses, permits and tags in amounts large enough to reduce elk herd sizes on federal lands in an equal proportion to the amount of allotments reduced by the respective federal agencies for livestock grazing."
